Why Tounsya

A home away from home, in your pocket.

Tounsya aims to create a global network for Tunisians abroad through solidarity, collaboration and shared experiences. We believe that every Tunisian deserves a home away from home — a place to find support, share opportunities and celebrate their culture with people who understand.

Five places, one situation: being Tunisian far from home. You’ve just arrived and know nobody; you need something, or you can give a hand; you want to send something to the bled; you want to get out; your child is losing the language.

  • Offer, or ask

Say what you need or what you can give. Someone in the community answers. That’s the whole of it.

  • Near you, and toward the bled

Screenings and gatherings near you · who’s flying soon and can carry a parcel · who’s Tunisian in your neighbourhood.

  • An assistant who speaks Tunisian

Ask in Tunisian, in French or in English. He shows you where to look — he never answers for a lawyer or a doctor.

Mutual aid

Say what you need. Or what you can give.

Two buttons, and they are the whole app: offer a service, or ask for a hand. Someone in the community answers — and they are nearby, because that is what makes help real.

  • Offer

A spare room, a lift, an hour of help with paperwork, a tool you don’t use. Whatever you can do.

  • Ask

Asking is not begging. It is how a community works, and here it costs nothing to try.

  • Near you, for real

The city is checked against your position, not typed in. A hand two hundred kilometres away is not a hand.

  • Then you talk

A private conversation opens from the listing. No one else reads it, and nothing is for sale here.

Travellers

Someone is flying to the bled this week.

The thing everyone already does, by messages and by chance: a parcel, a suitcase, the medicine you can’t find there, the papers that have to be handed over. Here you can see who is going, and when.

Events

Knowing in time, for once.

A Tunisian film screening, a concert, an iftar. You hear about them afterwards, or they are sold out. Here they come with a date, a price, a link to book — and a reminder a week before, then the day before.

  • SUN14

    Found by Tounsya

We look for them on venue pages and ticket sites, and enter them by hand. Found by us — not vouched for by us.

  • THU18

    A reminder, twice

Seven days before, then the day before. A ticket bought in January for September is a ticket you forget.

  • SAT27

    Near you, really

A filter that filters: within eighty kilometres. An event whose place we could not locate stays visible — we don’t hide what we don’t know.

  • Twenty seats, and then it’s full

An event can have a number of seats. Anyone can create one, and add it to their phone’s calendar in one tap.

9am9oum, the assistant

Ask in Tunisian. He answers in Tunisian.

Write “famma chkoun mechi l Tounes ghodwa?” and he understands. He reads the app and shows you where to look — he never does it for you, and he never answers in place of a lawyer, a doctor or an accountant.

  • Tunisian, French or English — he replies in the one you wrote
  • He reads, he never writes: he publishes nothing and messages nobody for you
  • Residence papers, health, money, taxes: he refuses, and points at the community

Jark & Nhakiw

Two Tunisian words, two needs nobody names.

They are not features. One is for the day you arrive somewhere and know nobody. The other is for the evening your child answers you in French.

Jark — جارك

Your neighbour. Who is Tunisian around you, and how to say hello.

  • Off by default. You turn it on, and only then are you seen.
  • Never a distance in kilometres — “in your neighbourhood”, “in your city”, “not far”.
  • A word is required to say hello. A click is not an intention.
  • A refusal is silent, and you knock once.
  • Women can choose to be seen by women only — and the filter works both ways.

Nhakiw — نحكيو

“Let’s talk.” Tunisian phrases, for you or for your children.

  • 89 phrases: Arabic script, transliteration, meaning.
  • How to say it — the sounds that do not exist in French, explained.
  • No chat alphabet. A child born in Lyon does not know that 7 is ح.
  • It counts what you have said to someone, not what you have read.
  • Written and checked by us. Nobody can add a phrase.

Trust & community

Built on genuine connections.

Tounsya grew out of a community of Tunisians helping each other abroad. The app keeps that spirit — and it keeps it in the code, not only in the words.

  • Private conversations

A conversation opens from a listing, and stays between the two of you. Attachments are encrypted, and your exact position never leaves the server.

  • Nothing to sell you

No ads, no paid tier today, nothing resold. The app has no reason to keep you scrolling — it has a reason to make you meet someone.

  • Open to collaboration

Ideas, improvement proposals, partnerships or sponsorships — we'd love to hear from you.
